The Cave

I try and keep him in a box
my shadow, that is
the other person, whom 
I envy or hate, depending
on the mood I’m in 
hidden away, 
so no one will know the truth 
about him 

yet he still escapes 
from walls of a 
self-made prison 
creating havoc 
until recaptured and returned 
to his proper place 

it is said Adam was first 
to taste the fruit 
of power and knowledge 
leaving little of that 
infamous apple 
for the rest of us
